How can I change the POP protocol I am using in order to download my e-mails via the IMAP protocol?

In order to change the protocol that you use to download your e-mails, find the related settings that correspond to your case below:

How can I access my e-mails?
You can access your e-mails via the website mail.cytanet.com.cy or through a client such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, etc.
Can I have an email @cytanet.com.cy without having an Internet service from Cyta?
You can have an email @cytanet.com.cy at a small cost per month. The service is provided at a cost of € 7.14/month for 1 email address. There is an additional cost for additional email addresses.
Which client would you recommend for my computer?

Zimbra client is free and offers access to your e-mail, contacts and a calendar and synchronises with your Cyta webmail. You can also sync it with your mobile phone. You can find it at https://www.zimbra.com/downloads/zimbra-desktop.

Which are Cyta’s incoming and outgoing mail servers and which ports do they use?

Cyta’s incoming mail server is mail.cytanet.com.cy which supports the IMAP protocol using STARTTLS over port 143. Cyta’s outgoing mail server is mail-out.cytanet.com.cy and supports the use of port 587 with STARTTLS and user identification. You can find the related settings here.

Are the settings the same when Cyta is not my Internet Service Provider?

Yes, provided the settings listed in the above answer are used.

How big can an e-mail be?
The maximum size of an e-mail that you can send/receive is 40ΜΒ.
How big is the capacity of the Mailbox?
The capacity of the Mailbox is 10GB. When it comes close to being filled, you will be informed of this by e-mail. You can also see the percentage of your mailbox that is used by hovering the cursor over the e-mail address shown above right. There, you can also see the capacity indicator bar, the color of which changes from green to orange and then red depending on the space left. You can also request additional storage space:

Is the Greek language available on Cyta Web Mail?
Yes. To change the language, select "Preferences", "General" and under "Time Zone and Language" select Greek. To save the change, click Save at the top left of the screen.
Do you offer mailbox backup? What it includes and how can I activate it?
Yes, we offer daily mailbox backup. It includes backup of your messages, contacts and settings for a period of two weeks. To activate it from your e-mail page, simply select “Preferences” on the menu, then “Mailbox Backup” and activate it.
How can I recover my mailbox information?

You can recover your mailbox information by contacting the Cyta Call Centre at 132. Each time email information is retrieved there is a charge of €5 (incl. VAT).

It should be noted that information cannot be recovered where it is related to:

  • Messages received or sent before the two-week period or after the last day of backup and
  • Any other changes made to your mailbox after the last day of backup.
Which is the best way to read my messages?

The best way to read your messages is with the IMAP protocol using an encrypted connection (SSL/TLS) which we recommend for your own security. You can find the related settings online at Cyta Forum www.cyta.com.cy/forum or you can contact the Cyta Call Centre on 132.

How do I transfer my Domain Name to Cytanet’s servers?

First you must contact the provider of the webspace that is hosting your site to release your DNS. Then you must talk to your domain name provider to release your DNS and give it the Cytanet DNS so that they can be transferred to us. Our DNS are:

Your DNS administrator can also change only MX records:

If I am using a client such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Mail, how can I see my e-mails with Cyta webmail?

If you are using another client, in order for your e-mails to remain on Cytanet webmail, we recommend the use of IMAP protocol. You can find the related settings online at Cyta Forum www.cyta.com.cy/forum or you can contact the Cyta Call Centre at 132.

How can I obtain an e-mail address (@cytanet.com.cy) from Cyta and how can I create a new e-mail address?
With the internet connection service, we provide you with one (1) free email address, which we create with your connection to Cytanet. For additional email addresses visit www.cyta.com.cy/additional-email-addresses
How can I prevent an unwanted e-mail address from sending me e-mails?
Select the option “Preferences” from the menu, then the options “Mail” and “Spam Mail” and enter the e-mail address you want to block. Also you can right click on the email you have received and select “Mark as Spam”.
Can my e-mail address be changed?

We can change your e-mail address. Your username, however, will remain the same. To change your email address, you must call the Cyta Call Center at 132.

Are incoming emails scanned for spam messages?
Yes, for your own protection messages are filtered and some can be categorized as spam. However, there is a possibility that non-spam messages are categorized as such as well.
If a message is categorized as spam where is it saved?

Messages categorized as spam will be saved in the “Junk” folder for thirty (30) days and then will be automatically deleted.

If you read your e-mails via the IMAP protocol, then you can read the messages that end up in your Webmail “Junk” in a separate client folder from the one you are using. To do this you need to synchronise the “Junk” folder too.

If you read your e-mails via the POP protocol, in order to read messages that end up in your Webmail “Junk” folder via the client you are using you will need to change the relevant setting in your Webmail. Select Preferences from the menu and then, in “Incoming Junk Messages”, select “Include Junk folder messages”. In this way, all the unwanted messages will appear in your Inbox. To see them in a different folder, you will need to use your Webmail or the IMAP protocol.

How long are the messages stored in the “Trash” folder?
The messages are stored in the “Trash” folder for 180 days and are then automatically deleted.
If you read your e-mails via the IMAP protocol, then you can read the messages that end up in your Webmail “Junk” in a separate client folder from the one you are using. To do this you need to synchronise the “Junk” folder too.

If you read your e-mails via the POP protocol, in order to read messages that end up in your Webmail “Junk” folder via the client you are using you will need to change the relevant setting in your Webmail. Select Preferences from the menu and then, in “Incoming Junk Messages”, select “Include Junk folder messages”. In this way, all the unwanted messages will appear in your Inbox. To see them in a different folder, you will need to use your Webmail or the IMAP protocol.

How long are the messages stored in the “Trash” folder?
The messages are stored in the “Trash” folder for fourteen (14) days and are then deleted.
How can I retrieve my email passwords?
Only the owner of the service can retrieve his/her own email passwords by calling Cyta's Call Center at 132. In the case of a company, the request should be sent in writing by fax to 80008081 or 22701017.
How can I change my e-mail username and password?

You can change your e-mail username and password from your e-mail page. Just, click on your e-mail address shown on the top right on your screen and then select the option “change password” on the drop-down menu that appears.

Can I use my e-mail address when it is temporarily disconnected?
Yes, you can do this either directly via mail.cytanet.com.cy or the website www.cyta.com.cy
Can I synchronize my contacts with my mobile phone?
Yes, you can do this by using the cardDAV protocol. On iOS devices the cardDAV protocol is supported without the use of any additional software. On Android devices you will need to use additional software.

You can obtain the software for Android devices from Google Play. There are several options available from which you can choose the one that best suits your needs. Indicative software available is the CardDAV – Sync Beta Marten Gajda, which is offered free or for a fee depending on the facilities the user wants. Please note that the use of such software is at your own risk.
Can I synchronize my calendar with my mobile phone?
Yes, you can do this by using the calDAV protocol. On iOS devices the calDAV protocol is supported without the use of any additional software. On Android devices you will need to use additional software.

You can obtain the software for Android devices from Google Play. There are several options available from which you can choose the one that better suits your needs. Indicative software available are the CalDAV – Sync Beta Marten Gajda and the calDAV Sync Beta. Please note that the use of such software is at your own risk.
Can I synchronize my contacts and my calendar with my computer client, e.g. Microsoft Outlook?
Yes, you can by using the cardDAV and CalDAV protocols respectively. Indicative software available is the iCAL4OL (http://ical.gutentag.ch/). Please note that the use of such software is at your own risk.
How can I activate the password recovery function for my Cytanet email?
To activate the password recovery function for your Cytanet email follow the instructions in “Cytanet Email: Email Password Recovery”.
I have created a free email address with my Internet Home service but I am not using it. Will it be deleted, or will I be able to keep it for as long as I am a customer of the service?
As mentioned in the features of the Internet Home service, if an email address is not used for a period of time exceeding 6 months, the email address will be deactivated and the content of the mailbox will be deleted.
