Chronology of Telecoms in Cyprus

2017 Two new high-spec Data Centres are inaugurated by Cyta, providing secure and reliable co-location services. The Tier 3 Data Centres are certified to ISO 27001.

Cytavision on the Go is a new service launched for Super Pack subscribers who can watch live Cyta Championship football matches free on their mobile phone or tablet, and simultaneously on two devices from anywhere.

Cyta’s Head Offices in Nicosia obtain “Green Office” certification.

Cyta obtains full Tier 3 certification of the Makarios Teleport from the World Teleport Association.

Cyta’s mobile network is upgraded with 4.5G speeds.

The Cyta Call Centre receives ISO 18295-1:2017 quality certification for Customer Contact Centres, making Cyta the only organisation in Cyprus, and one of the first in in the world, to implement the new management system standards.

2018 Cyta becomes the first organisation in Cyprus to be certified as a Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) Provider, in accordance with the provisions of EU Regulation 1035/2011. Certification is awarded to Cyta by the National Supervisory Authority following a lengthy and demanding process.

Cyta signs two new agreements to extend the Cytanet network, which now has a direct connection to the Moscow Internet Exchange (MSK-IX) and the Bulgarian Internet Exchange (BIX).

Cyta’s mobile network is named the Fastest Mobile Network in Cyprus for 2017 in both the 2G and 4G categories by OOKLA, considered as the most reliable organization of its kind in the world. The evaluation was made using its SpeedTest app, which is the most popular independent online measurement tool.

Environment Commissioner, Ioanna Panayiotou, presents Cytashop managers with Green Office certification for the environmental management and operation of the entire Cytashop network.

The first Cyta Support Centre is launched in Nicosia for customers experiencing problems with their mobile devices.

Cyta is awarded with a “Zero Waste to Landfill” certificate by TUV Cyprus Ltd.

Agreements are signed for the sale of 100% of the share capital of Cyta Hellas.

Cytavision enhances its content with the addition of two popular channels, NovalifeHD (channel 49) and NovastarsHD (channel 39), for Variety Pack and Super Pack subscribers.

Cyta launches its fiber network and further upgrades the mobile network with speeds of up to 1 Gigabit.

The process is completed for the transfer of 100% of the share capital of Cyta Hellas to Vodafone Greece.

Installation of the fiber network begins in major urban centres in all districts. It is the biggest-ever upgrade to the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and is due to be completed within four years.

For the second consecutive year, OOKLA names Cyta’s mobile network as the fastest in Cyprus.
