Chronology of Telecoms in Cyprus

2013 Cyta collaborates with Radius Oceanic Communications Inc. and CSnet International Inc. to connect the POSEIDON undersea cable system to the Offshore Communications Backbone (OCB) monitoring system, via which oceanography and telecommunications converge to serve the offshore hydrocarbons industry in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Cyta and the Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications sign an agreement to share capacity on Cyta’s ALEXANDROS undersea cable subsystem linking Cyprus, Egypt and France.

Cyta and the international telecommunications satellite firm Avanti inaugurate Avanti’s gateway earth station facilities for access to the Hylas 2 system at Cyta’s Makarios Teleport.

Cyta launches a new cloud service – Subscription-Based Hosting for SAP® Business All-in-One – for businesses of all sizes and in all sectors, in partnership with SAP and AMS.

2014 The POSEIDON undersea cable system comes into operation. Cyta’s international network is deemed capable of serving the offshore hydrocarbons industry.

2015 Cyta launches its 4G network.

An agreement is announced between Cyta and Telecom Italia Sparkle through MedNautilus on the new KIMONAS undersea fiber optic cable system linking Cyprus and Greece.

2016 Cyta continues to upgrade its international network, with total connections to the Cytanet service exceeding 90Gbps, making it one of the best and most reliable in the Eastern Mediterranean.
