Chronology of Telecoms in Cyprus

2019 Cyta receives a Gold Environment Protector Award and, at the same time, a Special Honorary Award for obtaining the highest score in the 2018 Pancyprian Environmental Awards for Organisations and Businesses.
Cyta announces the pilot operation of the first 5G network in Cyprus.

The Cyta Call Centre renews its ISO 18295-1:2017 quality certification for Customer Contact Centres and remains the only organisation in Cyprus and one of the few in the world to obtain and retain this certification.

Cyta enables the first-ever Augmented Reality call in Cyprus, with the use of holograms, as part of the pilot operation of the 5G network.

Contracts are signed by Cyta UK, Cyta and Hellenic Television Ltd for the transfer of Cyta UK’s retail customer base to Hellenic Television.

Cyta receives a double award from OOKLA. The Cytamobile-Vodafone network is recognized for the third consecutive year as the fastest mobile network in Cyprus and also as the network with the best coverage. This award is presented for the first time in Cyprus.

2020 The Makarios Teleport obtains full Tier 4 certification (the highest standard of excellence) from the World Teleport Association (WTA) and is now one of just 16 teleports around the world to have gained this certification.

Cyta plays an active role in the overall effort to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic through a variety of significant support measures.

2021Cyta is celebrating its 60th anniversary with several celebratory activities such as the release of a specially designed stamp, the creation of a Website on the History of Telecommunications in Cyprus and the publish of the anniversary book, etc.

Cyta continues to actively participate in the global effort to address the (Covid) pandemic.

The Cyta Mobile Shop started its routes in remote communities of rural Cyprus. Trimiklini village was the first stop.

Cyta achieved a high technological accomplishment, as Cytamobile-Vodafone’s network received the award of "The fastest mobile network in Europe".

2022The new ARSINOE subsea cable system comes into operation, bringing a significant upgrade to Cyprus’ telecommunications and the country’s place in the international digital environment.

Cyta has announced the completion of the island-wide 5G mobile network, offering state-of-the-art telecommunication services throughout the country, even to its most remote corners. Cyprus became the first EU member-state to cover 100% of its population with 5G technology.

2023100.000 subscribers have connected to the Cyta Fiber network.
