2001 Establishment of BesTel Communications Ltd. A joint venture between CYTA and ZTE Corporation of China, which aims at providing abroad high technology solutions in the field of telecommunications.

Introduction of the “i-choice” service which provides fast and permanent connection to the Internet.

CYTA adopts the name “CytaGlobal” for its international activities, aiming at a dynamic and more effective promotion of its international products.

Commencement of operation of the BSFOCS (Black Sea Fibre Optic Cable System), which connects Bulgaria with Russia and Ukraine. CYTA is a co-owner and the commercial administrator of the system.

Introduction of the new “National Numbering Plan”, which changed all 6-digit numbers to 8-digit.

New Internet service “NetRunner”.

New international service, “Cytanet Internet Roaming”, by Cytanet.

2002 Commercial operation of the “GPRS” (General Packet Radio Service) mobile data transmission service.

2003 Signing of an agreement for international roaming via the THURAYA Mobile Communications Satellite System.

Automation of telephone communications with Turkey and the occupied areas of Cyprus for calls via the CYTA networks.

Introduction of the “Multimedia Messaging Service” (mms).

Signing of contract for the supply and maintenance of the equipment of the new Nicosia Air Traffic Control Centre (LEFCO Project).
