Safe and responsible use of the internet

Cytanet is socially responsible and especially sensitive to issues concerning children and, as such, has designed and developed educational programmes aimed at all Internet users in Cyprus.

In particular, Cytanet visits primary, secondary and technical schools and gives educational presentations on safe Internet use. Since 2001, some 800 school visits have been carried out throughout Cyprus and the presentations have been attended by more than 80,000 students and teachers.

The presentations, which are organised and offered free of charge by Cytanet, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education & Culture, aim at informing students and teachers on how to use the Internet in a safe and responsible manner. The students have the opportunity to find out about the main online services and the advantages afforded by the Internet and to have any queries answered. At the same time, the Internet’s hidden dangers and pitfalls are examined, together with ways of dealing with them properly.

Cytanet also holds lectures on the subject “The Internet and our Children – Safe and Responsible Use”, which are aimed at parents and all those involved in children’s education and welfare. The lectures are held in conjunction with the Pancyprian School for Parents, Parents Associations and other organised bodies.

Particular reference is made during the lectures to the Safe Internet service which is offered free by Cytanet in order to protect children from illegal, undesirable and harmful online content.
