PRESS RELEASE 3/2014

Recognition for Cyta’s contribution to Road Safety

At a ceremony in Nicosia in December, in the presence of officials and representatives/senior managers of public sector organisations and private companies, the non-profit organisation Reaction paid tribute to Cyta, among its associates, for its contribution to Road Safety and for its support to Reaction’s activities.

An award, proclaiming Cyta an Honorary Member of Reaction, was presented on behalf of the President of the Republic by the Director of the President’s Office, Panayiotis Antoniou. Accepting the award on behalf of Cyta, Alexia Yiallouridou, Head of Public Relations, praised Reaction’s actions, especially in keeping young people informed and cultivating Road Safety awareness, an issue on which Cyta has focused its own contribution for many years.

On the issue of Road Safety, it is worth noting that since 2004, in addition to training its personnel – its drivers in particular –and equipping its fleet of vehicles with safe driving systems, Cyta has continued to make a notable contribution to society and, especially, to young people. Specifically, since 2004 it has offered free seminars to army conscripts in military camps throughout the island. At the same time, it has supported the cultivation of Road Safety awareness in pre-primary and primary school children, providing free cycle helmets in the context of the training given to organised groups of schoolchildren at the Police Road Safety Park in Nicosia.

Cyta is a founder member of the European Road Safety Charter which today has more than 2,350 members. For more about Cyta and Road Safety, visit https://www.cyta.com.cy/road-safety/en.
