Improving society digitally: EYA Grand Jury selecting the best digital projects in Cyprus

From September 22-24, 20 international experts with various professional backgrounds will meet at the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus in Larnaca, Cyprus, to share their expertise and experience and to select this year´s Winners of the European Youth Award (EYA).

Salzburg, September 15, 2016. The international EYA Online Jury has shortlisted 60 outstanding projects out of 167 submissions for #EYA16. After two online rounds, the top 60 digital projects improving society will be discussed and evaluated in a three days democratic process. Meeting from September 22-24, an especially allocated Grand Jury of 20 international and Cypriot experts will meet in Larnaca, Cyprus, to select the one to three winners in each of the eight EYA categories.

„This year’s European Youth Award offers again an outstanding selection of innovative digital projects using digital communication and IT to improve society and tackle pressing challenges. The passion and willingness to drive positive change for Europe of these young people is remarkable. The international experts of the Grand Jury will provide their time and expertise to select the best projects in the eight categories for #EYA16“, says Peter A. Bruck, founder and mastermind of EYA.

A highlight of the EYA Grand Jury meeting will be the open to the public Expert Forum. Held on September 23, it is a unique chance to meet and exchange with the EYA Grand Jury experts and discuss current challenges. The Grand Jury and Expert Forum in Cyprus is hosted by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the Digital Champion of the Republic of Cyprus and the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus.

The selected one to three best digital projects per category of 2016 will be invited to the winners event, the EYA Festival, which will take place in Graz from November 30 to December 3. Not only awaits them a pitching slot to present their outstanding solutions on stage, furthermore Europe´s unique contest for young and smart digital social start-ups helps them to gain knowledge and prime contacts through a special mentorship program lasting from September till December. The dedicated mentors are outstanding personalities like Anna Wypior (SAP, Germany); guiding and accompanying the winning teams and providing their business know-how, entrepreneurial expertise and experience.
