CYPRIOT IS ONE
OF THE FIVE
WINNERS OF THE
EUROPEAN ROAD
SAFETY CONTEST
Maria Demosthenous from Cyprus is one of the
five winners of the
"Become
a road safety reporter"
summer contest 2008 organised by the European
Road Safety Charter and sponsored in Cyprus by
Cyta.
Last July, the European Road Safety Charter once
again called on its 1,200 members in all the
countries of Europe to inform and encourage the
public to take part in the contest by preparing
a report (in the form of an article, photo
report, short film, etc) on Road Safety. The
prize for each of the five winners was an
all-expenses-paid weekend for two in Barcelona
while the winning reports will be publicised in
the first edition of the European Road Safety
Charter Journal.
Cyta, as one of the first organisations in
Europe to sign the European Road Safety Charter,
committed itself in 2004 to the common European
goal of reducing the number of fatal road
accidents. The Organisation is particularly
sensitive to and active on this issue and
responded to the call by promoting the contest
among its own personnel as well as the general
public.
The contest attracted participants from 21
European countries. The five winners, from five
different EU member states, were chosen for the
quality, creativity and innovation of their
articles.
The success of Ms. Demosthenous, a Cyta
employee, in the contest is an honour for
Cyprus. Her article concerned her personal
experience with her child who, after a certain
age, neglected to wear a seat belt in the car.
The Chief Executive Officer of Cyta, Mr
Photis
Savvides, has warmly congratulated Ms.
Demosthenous on becoming one of the five winners
of the contest.
