CYTA RENEWS ITS
COMMITMENT TO
THE EUROPEAN
ROAD SAFETY
CHARTER AND
CONTINUES IS
ACTIVE
INVOLVEMENT
At an event in Nicosia on Friday 13 February to
welcome 19 new signatories from Cyprus to the
European Road Safety Charter, Cyta Chairman
Stavros Kremmos renewed the Organisation’s
commitment to the aims of the Charter.
Cyta was one of the first 39 organisations in
Europe and the first in Cyrus to sign the
European Road Safety Charter in 2004. It
welcomes the 19 new members from Cyprus which,
by their signature, undertake to participate in
the efforts of some 1,300 organisations and
authorities across Europe to reduce the number
of road accident victims by 50% by 2010.
Turning its renewed commitment into action, Cyta
continues to invest in a range of activities,
both within the Organisation and in society at
large. Internally, the Organisation’s activities
focus on personnel training and maintaining high
standards of safety in its fleet of around 800
service vehicles.
Regarding its broader social contribution, Cyta
continues to focus primarily on the cultivation
of road safety awareness through specialised
education initiatives, aimed in particular at
young people who represent a large proportion of
road traffic victims in Cyprus. To this end,
since 2004 Cyta has held special seminars on
road safety for all National Guard conscripts
and final-year high school students throughout
Cyprus. It should be noted that, so far, more
than 55,000 young people have attended these
free seminars.
