CYTA AND ROAD SAFETY
INVESTING IN OUR YOUTH AND IN THE FUTURE
As in previous years, for the
fourth consecutive year, CYTA has decided once again to offer free
road safety seminars to soldiers and Lyceum and Technical School
students in their last year of studies.
This initiative started in 2004,
with the provision of free education to young people all over
Cyprus, with the aim of strengthening the efforts deployed by the
competent bodies to create a road safety conscience and to reduce
the incidence of road traffic accidents.
This action takes place in the
context of CYTA’s commitment in the European Road Safety Charter,
thus contributing to the joint European objective of reducing by 50%
the number of road traffic accident casualties by the year 2010.
It is worth noting that European
competent bodies have also turned their attention to building a road
safety conscience especially through educating young people, which
justifies the decision and initiative taken by CYTA to invest in
this area since 2004.
The seminars intended both for
Secondary School pupils and for the National Guard are organised in
conjunction with the competent Ministries of Education & Culture and
of Defence as well as with the National Guard Chief of Staff and the
Police, which also makes available relevant statistics and other
useful information for the on-going enrichment of the educational
material used during the seminars.
