CYTA ADVISORY
PROTECT YOURSELF
FROM UNWANTED INTERNATIONAL CALLS
CYTA has become aware that a
considerable number of its mobile telephony customers have been receiving
unwanted calls from abroad.
These calls, which are being
made intentionally from an Asian country, are routed to CYTA’s mobile telephony
customers via the international networks of CYTA and other Providers.
In most instances, no
calling number appears on the screen of your mobile phone when you receive such
a call. If you answer, the caller will attempt to speak with you, asking a
variety of personal questions with the main purpose of lengthening the duration
of the call.
It appears that the callers
are making money by exploiting loopholes in the payment system among
international service providers.
Please note that as a CYTA
customer (unless using your mobile phone abroad), you are not charged if you
answer such calls. However, if you receive such a call when abroad, we advise
you to terminate the call the moment you realise that you do not know the
identity of the caller.
CYTA is
investigating the problem in collaboration with the other Telecommunications
Service Providers in Cyprus and with telecommunications organisations abroad in
order to identify the culprits and bring an end to the phenomenon of unwanted
calls.
