CYTA PRESENTED THE 2003 ANNUAL REPORT ..."SPEAKING THE EUROPEAN
LANGUAGE"
“The accession of Cyprus into the European
Union is now a fact and CYTA acknowledges the weight of the responsibility that
follows this. As a contemporary competitive business, it aims at establishing
itself as an equal member in the European telecommunications field, being able
to compete with any developed European organisation or company.”
This was emphasised by Mr. Stavros Kremmos, Chairman
of CYTA, during the Presentation of the Organisation’s Annual Report for 2003.
The Presentation took place today, Tuesday 13 July 2004, at Hilton Park, in
Nicosia. The event was honoured by the Minister of Communications and Works, Mr.
Harris Thrasou, representatives of the state, higher members of the public and
private sector, as well as by representatives of the Mass Media.
The Chairman of the Organisation stressed out that
due to its leading position, CYTA has the primary responsibility for the
development of electronic communication. Within these frames, it has managed to
expand its product and services portfolio so as to include, apart from
telecommunication services, solutions and applications in the informatics
sector, data, context and entertainment services, as well as management systems.
The Chairman marked out the Network Partnership
Agreement between CYTA and the mobile telecommunications company Vodafone, which
has resulted in the supply of mobile telecommunications services under the
commercial brand Cytamobile-Vodafone. He also noted the commercial
introduction of miVision, a service that carries digital sound and vision
through a telephone line and delivers it through a Set-Top Box to the customer’s
TV. Simultaneously, the multimedia messages, mms messages, were
introduced, as well as the mobile conference calls. In the customer service
field the cytashop was introduced bringing a revolutionised way of
function to the Organisation’s shops, based on the principles of the “model
commercial store”.
Mr Kremmos also highlighted the fact that CYTA is
the first and largest Organisation in the Cyprus public sector, which has
managed to achieve the quality certification, ISO 9001:2000, for the whole of
the organisation.
Moreover, the constant upgrades of the national and
international network and the expansion of CYTA’s activities abroad have
continued ceaselessly. The foundation of the subsidiary companies CytaHellas
SA and CytaUK Ltd, has already resulted in the further upgrading of
the advanced telecommunication network between Cyprus, Greece and the UK.
Referring to the financial results of 2003, the
Chairman stated that, “Keeping in mind the cost centered policy followed by
CYTA for most of its services, the reviewed year continues to show solid
financial results.” The surplus before taxation reached £29m in 2003, from
£7m in 2002. The stated surplus was configured after the payment of a £36m Grant
to the state, and a profit of £8m from stock sales was noted.
Mr. Kremmos went on to express his cordial thanks to
the customers who honour the Organisation with their loyalty and the Minister of
Communications and Works, Mr. Harris Thrassou, as well as his predecessor, Mr.
Kikis Kazamias, for their excellent co-operation. He also thanked the Mass Media
and all the associates of CYTA for the respect with which they treat the matters
of the Organisation.
He then congratulated the previous Board of CYTA and its Chairman, Mr. Stathis
Papadakis, as well as the current Board, the personnel, and the Management for
their efficiency, hard work and the unity of mind they show. Finally, he made an
honorable mention to the late Mr. Michalakis Zivanaris and to his two successful
terms of office as the Chairman of the Organisation.
In conclusion, the Chairman of CYTA underlined, “As a board, we took in
charge in August 2003. A year later we came to realize that we do not just
“speak the European language”, but we also speak the language of our clients, of
our employees, of technology, of the new era… CYTA is already successful. We
promise to keep it in the highest position, where it belongs!”.
