Press Release: 30/2003 CYTA and Maltacom Group sign a Bilateral Agreement of Cooperation
Ôhis morning, under the auspices of the Minister of Communications and Works Mr Kikis Kazamias, CYTA and Maltacom Group signed a Bilateral Agreement of cooperation, strengthening further the existing bonds of cooperation between the two organisations.
The agreement was signed by CYTA Chairman Mr Stathis Papadakis and the former Chairman of Maltacom Group Mr Maurice Zarb Adami, who was designated as the special envoy of the current Chairman for this occasion.
The scope of the agreement is for the two telecommunications organisations to extend mutual assistance in various areas closely associated with the rapid developments of information and communications technologies, and more specifically in the fields of the Internet, multimedia and wireless communications services.
It focuses on the exchange of information, knowledge and experience in next generation networks, the development of commercial relationships, economic and financial issues, the exchange of information on scientific and technological know-how, the participation in EU-funded programmes and the exchange of views on the EU’s regulatory framework. Social, cultural and sports aspects will also form part of the CYTA - Maltacom Agreement, involving the employees, pensioners and families of both organisations.
In his address the Minister of Communication and Works Mr Kikis Kazamias stressed that the Government of Cyprus strongly supports initiatives such as the signing of the Bilateral Agreement of Cooperation between CYTA and Maltacom Group, as they provide the interested parties with an opportunity to share information and knowledge, to strengthen their relationship and explore synergies.
Mr Papadakis emphasized in his address that the signing of the EU Accession Treaty in Athens by Cyprus and Malta had brought the two countries even closer and it was therefore only natural for CYTA and Maltacom Group to review the existing cooperation agreement, align it with the rapidly evolving competitive environment and seek new areas of cooperation. He furthermore expressed his confidence that the signing of this agreement would further cement the present excellent relations between CYTA and Maltacom Group to the mutual benefit of both organisations and their countries.
Mr Zarb Adami stressed that he was pleased to have been the catalyst for the signing of the agreement and that he was confident that the existing good relations between the two organisations will be further strengthened by the scheduled meetings between Maltacom Group and CYTA. He continued saying that Maltacom Group is today one of the strongest organisations in Malta and that he was sure the synergies between the two organisations will enhance significantly the visibility of both Maltacom Group and CYTA in the new competitive telecommunications environment. He also extended his heartfelt thanks to the Minister of Communications and Works, who placed the signing of the agreement under his auspices, and to the Chairman of CYTA for the warm welcome and the hospitality extended to the Maltese delegation.
