Press Release: 82/2002 42nd Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation Council in Cyprus
CYTA is hosting the 42nd Ánnual Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) which will take place in Limassol, Cyprus between 11 - 14 November, 2002.
Cyprus has been a full member of the CTO since 1983 and the Government is represented on the Council by CYTA in its capacity as the delegated “National Body” which enables CYTA to benefit from various programmes, in particular the CTO's Programme for Development and Training.
It is expected that around 70 delegates from 22 Commonwealth countries will participate in the 42nd CTO Council Meeting. The meeting will cover developments in the CTO's three main areas of activity which are Telecommunications Policy and Regulation, Telecommunications for Social and Economic Development and Telecommunications Business Development. During the meeting a number of presentations will be made by distinguished speakers, while the agenda also includes the issue of the approval of a new constitution for the CTO in view of the dramatic changes that are taking place in the global telecommunications sector.
The Minister of Communications and Works, Mr. Averof Neofytou, will address the Opening Ceremony of the 42nd Council Meeting, on Monday, 11 November 2002 at 09:00. Senior officials of the CTO as well as the Representative of Cyprus to the CTO Council and CYTA Chairman, Mr. Stathis Papadakis, will also address the meeting.
Representatives of the media have been invited to the opening ceremony.
