New National Numbering Plan
As from June 1st, 2002

CYTA, in the light of rapid changes in world telecommunications and the introduction of new services and in the framework of harmonisation with the Directions of the European Union and international organisations, has modernised the National Numbering Plan (NNP).

The new NNP was introduced on December 1st, 2001 with parallel operation of old and new numbers.  As from  June 1st, 2002 the parallel operation is terminated and all calls to the old numbers will be forwarded to recorded announcements for a period of six months, until December 1st, 2002.

It is noted that the above arrangement will not apply for the Fax Service, the Internet Service, the Short Message Service and the Packet Switching Service (CYTAPAC) and customers should ONLY use the new numbers.

Changes will affect almost all telecommunication services that use telephone numbers.

More specifically:

There will be an 8-digit numbering for Fixed Telephony (PSTN and ISDN) all over Cyprus. The "0" prefix is abolished for all calls within Cyprus. The "2" digit and the area code will be incorporated into the existing 6-digit number.  The new 8-digit number will be used for all calls within Cyprus (within district and between districts).  The new 8-digit numbers for the Nicosia district will begin with 22, for the Famagusta district with 23, for the Larnaca district with 24, for the Limassol district with 25 and for the Paphos district with 26

For Mobile Telephony and Paging the "09" code will be replaced by the "99" digits.

Changes will also apply for a number of other services. A detailed list of the changes is shown in the table below.

It is also noted that from now on customers should programme their telephone facilities (e.g. Call Forwarding, Abbreviated Dialing) using the new 8-digit numbers.

The Special Services numbering (3-digit and 4-digit numbers), as well as the prefix "00" ("+" for Mobile Telephony) for international calls have not changed.

For calling Cyprus from abroad customers should dial the international prefix, the code for Cyprus (357) and the new 8-digit number.

More information about the new numbers can be found on the website www.cyta.com.cy\tesa or by calling the freephone line 80002001 and the CYTA Call Centre 132.
