Press Release: 07/2001 Further reductions on international call charges for mobile and fixed telephony
As from January 15th 2001The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority has implemented further reductions on international call charges (analogue, mobile and ISDN) as from January 15th 2001, in line with its policy to rebalance its tariffs.
Since August 1999 CYTA has started to progressively reduce its international call charges. The reductions implemented on international call charges for mobile and fixed (analogue and ISDN) telephony reach up to 83%, depending on the country the calls are made to.
The following table gives the fixed telephony charges before January 15th and the new ones, for some of the countries with the highest outgoing telephone traffic. The table gives both the peak and off-peak hour charges (i.e. those that are applicable daily from 21.00-08.00 and all day Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays).
C O U N T R Y C H A R G E S (per minute) Peak hours Off-peak hours From to From to GREECE 18c 14c 16c 12c UNITED KINGDOM 19c 16c 16c 12c USA 19c 16c 16c 12c ITALY 27c 20c 22c 16c RUSSIA (Moscow and St. Petersburg) (for the remaining areas charges have not been modified) 30c 27c 24c 22c ÂULGARIA 30c 27c 24c 22c LEBANON 25c 20c 20c 16c CANADA 27c 20c 22c 16c SWEDEN 27c 20c 22c 16c FINLAND 30c 27c 24c 22c
Note: Fixed telephony calls are not charged per minute, but on a per 2c basis. For example, calls to Greece on peak hours will be charged 2c per period of 8,57 seconds or part of it (which is equivalent to 14c per minute). Similar charge reductions have also been introduced for outgoing international calls from public cardphones and coin-operated phones.
Similarly, significant reductions have also been applied to the international call charges of the CYTAGSM, soeasy and NMT-900 mobile phone services. The CYTAGSM and NMT-900 international call charges are 6c or less above the fixed telephony international charges. The soeasy international call charges are 20c above the fixed telephony charges.
It should be noted that the CYTAGSM and soeasy international calls are charged on a per second basis with a minimum charge time of 20 seconds. The NMT-900 international calls are charged on a per 2c basis.
