New Charges for the National Private Leased Circuits

In the framework of the rebalancing of its tariffs, as of March 1st, 2001, the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority is introducing new connection and subscription charges for the National Private Leased Circuits (NPLCs).

The new charges have to be implemented as a result of the change in the way the NPLCs are charged.  The new charging policy that is implemented worldwide is based on the optical distance between the telephone exchanges and abolishes the "Within District" and "Between Districts" circuits.

The National Private Leased Circuits are ideal for effective, fast and reliable information (text, data, video) flow from one point to another.  The customers pay a fixed monthly charge, regardless of the circuit use and the volume of traffic.  The new charges are as follows:

Notes:

  1. Every National Private Leased Circuit consists of two Subscriber Segments (SS) and a number of Network Segments (NS).
  2. The Subscriber Segment connects the premises of the customer with the nearest telephone exchange.
  3. If the distance between the two-end telephone exchanges, which connects the premises of the subscriber, is less than 800 metres, then no Network Segments will be charged.  Furthermore no Network Segments will be charged when the premises of the subscriber are distanced between them less than 800 metres.
  4. The Network Segment is the optical distance of 20 kilometres between the two-end telephone exchanges divided by 20 kilometres.
  5. Percentage discounts will be given on the charges for the Network Segments as shown below:
    1. 1st NS                     0%
      2nd NS                  10%
      3rd NS                  20%
      4th NS                  30%
      5th NS or more     40%
