Change in Internet Access Numbers The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) informs the public that following relevant recommendations by European Union authorities, regarding numbering, the numbers for access to the Internet will change effective 30 June 2000.
Specifically, the four-digit numbers 16XX for Internet access will be abolished and replaced by numbers like 099-16XX. It should be noted that the digits 16XX that follow the digits 099 will not necessarily be the previous four digit number of the provider. Each Internet Service provider has already informed its subscribers of the exact new access number. It should also be noted that the access number for each provider will be the same throughout Cyprus.
It should be noted that the old and the new numbers have been operating in parallel since 10 December 1999.
This parallel operation initially was set to end on 31 May 2000. However, CYTA decided to prolong the parallel operation of the old and new number until 29 June 2000 in order to offer as best a service as possible to its Internet subscribers in Cyprus.
Effective 30 June 2000, only the new numbers for access to the Internet will be valid.
