New UK area numbering plan
As from August 1st, 2000

In the framework of a new numbering plan, new dialling codes and 8-digit numbers will come into force in six geographic areas of the United Kingdom.

For international calls from Cyprus to these geographic areas the new numbers will be operating in parallel with the old ones until July 31st, 2000. As from August 1st, 2000 only the new ones will be valid.

For local calls within these areas the new 8-digit numbers were operating in parallel with the old ones until April 22, 2000. After this date only the new numbers are valid.

For trunk calls to these areas the existing codes will gradually stop operating between August 5 and October 14, 2000.

In addition, the implementation of new codes for calls to other services, such as mobile telephony, paging, personal numbers, premium rate numbers, freephone and audiotex services is scheduled for spring 2001.
