SUBSIDIARY COMPANIES

Digimed Communications Ltd
The company’s mission is to create the right conditions and functions so as to achieve CYTA’s aim of expanding its operations in Cyprus and in other countries with large Cypriot communities.  This expansion includes the completion of the range of products offered by CYTA and the provision of value-added services as well as total and integrated solutions for the local market and abroad.

During 2005, Digimed’s subsidiaries expanded their operations and services in the context of achieving the above targets and responding to increased competition.

It is worth noting the establishment and commercial operation of Actel Ltd, in which CYTA owns the majority shareholding, for the provision of mainly broadband services in Hungary.  Furthermore, during 2005 CYTA UK Ltd began providing national and international telephony and Internet services in the United Kingdom, while its subsidiary, Emporion Plaza Ltd, which is already offering web services to business entities in Cyprus, launched its e-commerce site, www.eplaza.com.cy

Actel Ltd
Actel Communications Ltd, a majority shareholding of CYTA, has developed the necessary infrastructure and has reached the commercial operations stage as an alternative provider of mainly broadband communication services in the Hungarian market.

In order for the company to provide high quality total communication solutions to consumers, it operates its own broadband network which consists of a DSL access network, a softswitch and a digital content management platform. Actel is seeking to forge partnerships with other communications entities in Hungary in order to efficiently provide common services.

The company’s strategic aim is to become established as one of the main telecommunications players in the Hungarian market. To this end, Actel is developing the necessary infrastructure and product portfolio in order to meet the needs of both business and home customers.

By establishing Actel, CYTA has moved another step towards accomplishing its goal of expanding its operations abroad and, at the same time, has created the possibility of extending its international network connecting Cyprus, Greece and the UK in Central Europe.

BesTel Communications Ltd
BesTel Communications Ltd was established and started operations in 2001 using the trademark BesTelComms. The company is a joint venture between CYTA and ZTE Corporation, one of the largest communications equipment vendors of China.

BesTelComms’ purpose is to support ZTE’s internationalisation effort and to provide total high quality telecom solutions by combining the technological know-how of its Chinese partners with CYTA’s tradition in serving customers. Furthermore BesTelComms is seeking to invest in other telecom projects.

During 2005, the company successfully promoted ZTE’s softswitch technology to the Hungarian company Actel Communications.

CytaCom Solutions Ltd
In cooperation with the subsidiary company CytaCom Solutions Ltd, our Organisation is now in a position to offer integrated telecommunications and IT solutions, for data, voice and image applications.

2005 was a year of challenges for CytaCom Solutions Ltd, since the company released all CYTA’s staff after recruiting its own staff from the free market.

The successful delivery of two projects, both unique in extent and complexity, was among last year’s highlights. In the framework of the Zenon Managed Network Services project, one of the biggest IT networks in Cyprus was designed and implemented and is now being managed in collaboration with CYTA. This network serves more than 160 travel agents who belong to a Virtual Private Network and are interconnected with the Sabre global distribution system used for travel reservations.

The other project of great importance was the installation of the largest private fixed telephone exchange on the island for the InterContinental Aphrodite Hills hotel and resort. The system has a capacity for 90 telephone channels and more than 850 extensions. It should be noted that 30 external antennas were installed to cover the requirements of personnel in the resort’s surrounding area.

The existing quality management system ISO 9001:2000 reinforces the company’s commitment to quality and to the continuous improvement of its services. Moreover, the CISCO Premier Partner certification denotes the company’s specialisation and know-how in networking solutions with state-of-the-art technology.

CYTA Hellas S.A. and CYTA UK Ltd
As part of the expansion of CYTA’s operations abroad, its wholly-owned subsidiary company Digimed Communications Ltd established CYTA UK Ltd in the UK in 2001 and CYTA Hellas S.A. in Greece in 2003.

During 2005, CYTA UK and CYTA Hellas continued to provide total end-to-end corporate solutions based on the CytaWorld.Net IP/MPLS platform. CytaWorld.Net currently has nodes in Lefkosia (Nicosia), Athens and London interconnected via a private self-healing optical fibre ring and with international extensions beyond. At the same time, efforts intensified to provide retail telecommunications services in the Greek and UK markets.

For CYTA UK, 2005 was a landmark since it launched its  telecommunications services in the UK retail market. These services are based on the Carrier Pre-Selection (CPS) model, which allows customers to choose CYTA UK as their alternative carrier. Calls within the UK and to international destinations beyond are routed via CYTA UK’s partner in the UK, whilst calls to Cyprus and Greece are routed via the CytaWorld.Net IP/MPLS platform.

Three competitive packages for home customers were launched commercially under the cyta.talk brand. These packages, which are differentiated according to usage patterns, are particularly aimed at catering for the specific needs of the UK Greek-speaking community. The competitive advantage of the cyta.talk packages enables CYTA UK to offer international calls to Cyprus and Greece at the same rates as local UK calls. Depending on the package, this can mean that they are completely free.

CYTA UK’s successful operations continued with the launch of the cytabusiness and cytabusiness.plus packages, tailored specifically for the needs of the business sector. CYTA UK is currently at the final planning stages for the provision of broadband services, including fast Internet and Video on Demand.

CYTA UK’s successful launching 2005 helped to reinforce CYTA’s corporate strengths which include global communications know-how and a commitment to creating value for our people, our partners and our customers wherever they may be, in Cyprus or beyond.

Emporion Plaza Ltd
Ç Emporion Plaza Ltd, the main products of which are e-commerce services and web design solutions, continued and expanded its operations in 2005.

The e-commerce service was launched commercially during the year. Consumers can now purchase products online from www.eplaza.com.cy, pay with their credit card and have the products delivered to their homes.

The Emporion Plaza e-commerce service offers businesses the design, development and hosting of e-shops at www.eplaza.com.cy, consultancy services for the transition to the e-commerce environment and training on the administration panel of the e-shop.

In addition, Emporion Plaza Ltd continued to provide web design solutions, including graphic design, programming, the development of website content management tools and web hosting.

Iris Gateway Satellite Services Ltd
Iris Gateway Satellite Services Ltd provides satellite turnaround of audio and video programmes between Europe and Asia via the Makarios Satellite Earth Station.

Iris also provides services through the international fibre network of CytaGlobal (CYTA’s International Commercial Services) to complement its satellite offering. These products provide integrated solutions for customers interested in distributing their services at various locations internationally using a combination of fibre and satellite means.

In 2005 the company attracted additional television channels to its DVB platform on AsiaSat 2 and increased its revenues substantially from the provision of sports events on an occasional basis. Iris focuses on meeting the expectations of its customer base and has managed to renew major contracts in spite of increased competition in the international market.
